Homeowners may place garbage at curbside no earlier than sunset of the evening before the scheduled pick-up. The Village of Palatine determines the garbage pick-up day. As of April 2006, garbage pick-up is Tuesday. If a scheduled pick-up occurs during a holiday week, pick-up will occur the following business day. Pick-up of larger items (i.e. water heaters, appliances) can be scheduled by calling B.F.I. at (847) 776-1720. Garbage is to be enclosed in sturdy plastic bags securely tied closed. Homeowners are encouraged to place all recyclable items in recycle bins. Recycle bins should be placed curbside the same day as scheduled garbage pick-up. After garbage pick-up, bins should be taken back inside or stored next to the unit. Homeowners are encouraged to write their address on the bin with permanent marker to prevent loss of bin. Disposal of liquid wastes into storm sewers is prohibited Liquid wastes, include, but are not limited to: 1. Motor oil 2. Paints or stains 3. Solvents 4. Household cleaners 5. Pesticides 6. Any other liquid which can harm wildlife. Prohibiting disposal of liquid wastes into storm sewers is to prevent pollution of our lakes and creek. The storm sewers run directly to our lakes and creek.
